Touba coffee has a rich history that can be traced back to the late 19th century. Originating from Senegal, West Africa, this coffee is typically made by blending dark roasted coffee beans with a spice known as Selim pepper. The founder, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, introduced Touba coffee to the Mouride Brotherhood because he believed the spice had both spiritual and medicinal benefits. Adding Selim pepper to the coffee would provide a flavorful and energizing drink that would help his followers stay alert during long prayer sessions.
